Kevin,
SLOW DOWN. The other thread had some good advice, but it was worded a little strong. I get the feeling you may just gaff it off. I wouldn't do that, but I wouldn't be scared to work on your bike either.
I recommend you pick up a shop manual. Clymer or Suzuki. Start with the basic stuff like your oil and air filter questions, then move on to routine services. From there you can customize to your heart's content.
I started by getting rid of the muffler and putting on a friend's stcok HD Dyna muffler (with the baffles punched= with the sound dampening baffles inside the muffler punched out), that had other effects on the bike which lead me to fooling with the carberator adjustments, air filter, and fuel jets (inside). Nothing was hard, but if I hadn't started slowly, I'd have gotten in WAY over my head real fast. My bike has a lot of changes (some cosmetic like ape hangers, relocated back light, chrome dress ups to the lights, etc...; some performance like muffler/aibox changes; and some straddle the line like a new seat, braided metal brake line, etc....) but nothing happened overnight.
BTW, for the right filter sizes, either go to a suzi shop and they'll have them, or, if you can wait a little while, try ordering through a mail order like Dennis Kirk (definitely cheaper).
But do yourself a favor and invest in a manual and some decent tools, first.
KTRSD,
-Jim
